Our News

We are delighted to be able to offer a quite unique opportunity to fellow members of the JLSA. To mark the birthdate of the founder of Jaguar Cars, Sir William Lyons, on the 4 September, we have been able to arrange a full guided tour of the British Motor Museum, culminating in a visit to the Collections Centre where the JDHT are housed with their wonderful collection of Jaguars and Daimlers.

You will have the opportunity to discover many different British motor cars through the ages, together with a fabulous array of Jaguars in the main museum, expertly talked through by our guides, before heading over the road to meet the team in the Collections Centre who will happily talk Jaguar with you, and you may well know some of the volunteers working there!

The plan is to make your way over to the BMM at Gaydon for 10.30,am when you will be greeted and offered teas and coffees, ahead of the tour starting at 11.00 am. The tour of the main museum and the Collections Centre will take around an hour and a half, after which you are free to roam the facility at leisure for the rest of the day if you wish. The restaurant is open all day, so you might fancy a cuppa or lunch during the day, and the prices are very reasonable.

Places available are very limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis and we will be sending out application forms very soon so please complete these and send back with payment by no later than 5 August. The price of this trip is £15 per member and £20 per guest.

I am pleased to confirm that our September Day trip will be to Cambridge. Further details will be shared in due course.

September 17, 2023 - DAY TRIP TO OXFORD – SEPTEMBER 2023

On Saturday 16 September 110 members and guests travelled to Oxford for a day at leisure. Thankfully the weather remained fine all day for us. Oxford is a City of culture, great shops and plenty of eating and drinking venues so something for everything. Some members took the Hop on and Hop off bus to take in the sights and help them get their bearings. Others took a boat trip.

I went on a walking tour of the colleges which was really interesting. I also visited the oldest pub in Oxford called the Turf Tavern. Local legend also has it that former U.S. president Bill Clinton, while attending Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, infamously “did not inhale” during an evening of carousing at the pub. Other famous guests include Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Tony Blair, CS Lewis, Stephen Hawking and the cast of Harry Potter. To work off my lunch, I climbed the 99 steps of the Cafax Tower which gave a fantastic view of the city and the many spires. Oddly for me, I avoided the shops and busy crowds and continued walking, taking in the sights of the city , stopping for a coffee/cake before having a glass of prosecco on a rooftop bar. It was then time to board the coach and return home.

A good day was had by all!
