A number of changes to our Constitution were proposed and there was some interesting and positive discussions – more on this soon when we publish the revised wording. Following a delicious 3 course lunch Peter Leake introduced Sir John Egan who gave an excellent presentation, answering questions about Jaguar’s past and the difficult decisions he had to make whilst CEO. September 17, 2023 - DAY TRIP TO OXFORD – SEPTEMBER 2023

On Saturday 16 September 110 members and guests travelled to Oxford for a day at leisure. Thankfully the weather remained fine all day for us. Oxford is a City of culture, great shops and plenty of eating and drinking venues so something for everything. Some members took the Hop on and Hop off bus to take in the sights and help them get their bearings. Others took a boat trip.

I went on a walking tour of the colleges which was really interesting. I also visited the oldest pub in Oxford called the Turf Tavern. Local legend also has it that former U.S. president Bill Clinton, while attending Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, infamously “did not inhale” during an evening of carousing at the pub. Other famous guests include Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Tony Blair, CS Lewis, Stephen Hawking and the cast of Harry Potter. To work off my lunch, I climbed the 99 steps of the Cafax Tower which gave a fantastic view of the city and the many spires. Oddly for me, I avoided the shops and busy crowds and continued walking, taking in the sights of the city , stopping for a coffee/cake before having a glass of prosecco on a rooftop bar. It was then time to board the coach and return home.

A good day was had by all!

July 20, 2023 - ARCHIVE MATERIAL DONATION

Earlier this month the Committee met with Jim Watt, Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club Ltd (DLOC) to handover a large collection of Daimler and Lanchester archive material.  The documents include a variety of books, drawings and workshop manuals.

The documents were kindly donated by one of our members Graham Fielder who was keen for them to be put to good use and managed properly. Tony Fardoe, Chair of the DLOC, was thrilled to receive the material and responded “I can assure you, it has gone to the right place, and for our members to be able access such material, which will be catalogued and scanned, will in no small way help to keep the Daimler flags flying for future generations”.  The DLOC is a club run for enthusiasts by enthusiasts for the owners of all Daimlers, Lanchesters and BSAs. It has 1450  members worldwide and their aim is to embrace owners of all vehicles of the marques, to be a source of information as well as a sociable club.
